lady walking through woodlands with overhanging green trees and dappled sunlight

Besides hanging around the coast trying to turn back the waves, King Canute also found time to issue or witness charters allocating parcels of land to various supporters or churches. These are the earliest written records of landholdings to survive and usually include a description of the boundary of the land being granted. This walk traces these boundaries of a small estate on the Sussex/Kent border, a surprising amount of which can still be identified a thousand years later.
