North Wealden is easily reachable from London; London Bridge directly connects to the stations of Eridge, Crowborough, Buxted and Uckfield. Uckfield is the end of this line, with the whole journey taking an hour and 20 mins.
London also directly links to the East of Wealden – trains from London Charing Cross reach Frant and Wadhurst in approximately in hour, before going further towards Battle and Hastings.

Along and near the Southern Coast, Wealden has the stations of Berwick, Polegate, Pevensey and Westham and Pevensey Bay. These connect with both Eastbourne, Hastings and further towards Kent, as well as West towards Lewes and Brighton.
Some of the stations on this line also have a direct link to London via Lewes, taking approximately an hour and a half. Smaller stations such as Berwick tend to not have a regular London service – please check the National Rail website for more information.

The towns Hailsham and Pevensey are covered in the Stagecoach ‘Eastbourne Travel Zone’ (both the DayRider and MegaRider tickets). Stagecoach buses go from Eastbourne to Polegate and Hailsham every 15 minutes – 99 goes from Eastbourne to Pevensey Bay every 20 minutes, and 8 goes towards Pevensey village. Brighton and Hove’s regency buses also serve Wealden. The 28, which travels from Brighton to Eastbourne, serves Polegate, Hailsham and Laughton, running around every half an hour. The 29 to and from Brighton covers Heathfield, Eridge, Crowborough, Uckfield and Isfield, its northernmost stop being Tunbridge Wells. Bus times vary – check the timetable for details.
Since September 2025, new regency 54 bus has been running from Uckfield to Eastbourne (which was originally a stagecoach bus). This route links Eastbourne with Polegate, Hailsham, Golden Cross, East Hoathly, Halland and Uckfield, around every hour. Check the timetable for details.
Cuckmere Buses operate within Wealden and the surrounding areas. They connect Eastbourne to Polegate and Drusillas, Alfriston, Berwick, Hailsham, Westham, Litlington, East Dean, Friston and Jevington, and Herstmonceux Castle. Days vary – check their timetables for more details.
Popular routes include the Cuckmere Valley Ramblerbus (Berwick - Alfriston - Seaford - Litlington – Berwick, during the summer), The Bloomsbury Route (Eastbourne - Alfriston – Lewes), and the summer Sussex Art Shuttle (Eastbourne - Alfriston - Charleston – Lewes). Cuckmere buses also serve a local Hailsham town bus service.
Wealdlink community transport service serves bus routes between Crowborough and Rotherfield, Wadhurst, Heathfield, Mayfield, and further towards Battle. See their latest schedule for more details: Scheduled Services Feb 25.
London Gatwick is the nearest airport and is easily reachable on the rail line which runs between London and Polegate/Pevensey. Other stations such as Uckfield simply require a quick change at East Croydon or at one of the central London stations.
By road, Gatwick is approximately an hour drive from the Wealden area, the A22 being the most convenient route. Due to easy links to London, other airports such as Heathrow are also easily accessible.
Newhaven is the nearest ferry terminal, where services run from Newhaven to Dieppe, France two to three times a day. With a change at Lewes, Newhaven can be reached by train from Berwick, Polegate and Pevensey, and by bus towards Hailsham, Uckfield and Crowborough.
By road, Newhaven can be reached in approximately 40 minutes to an hour – depending where you are heading to in Wealden – using the A27 or the A22.
Wealden can be easily accessed from the M25 by either the A22, A26 or A21, depending on your destination.
From the West, Wealden is connected to the A27, which goes through Polegate and Pevensey, and by the A272, which skirts Uckfield and goes through towards Buxted.
From the East, the A259 goes from Hastings through to the Pevensey Levels and Pevensey Bay, before going further towards Eastbourne, Newhaven and Brighton.
Offshoots of the A21 connect the North and Central Wealden to the East, and similarly, roads leading off the A22 and the A26 connect North and Central Wealden to the West.
