About
In this workshop, participants will explore how blackwork can be combined with other period embroidery techniques to create a striking Elizabethan-inspired piece.
Participants will be guided step by step as they work the design onto Belfast linen. While the workshop is suitable for beginners, it is best suited to those with some embroidery experience, as the design is worked on a closely woven counted linen and the Elizabethan braid stitch is a technically challenging technique.
During the day, students will learn and practise a range of traditional stitches, including Elizabethan plaited braid stitch, cross-trestle stitch, small diamond stitch, alternate zig-zag stitch, satin stitch, seeding, and stem stitch.
The workshop fee (£125) includes a kit containing:
- A wooden embroidery hoop
- Belfast linen printed with the design
- DMC black stranded cotton
- Gold passing thread
- Madeira metallic gold embroidery thread
- And a selection of needles, including size 26 and size 22 tapestry needles and size 10 embroidery needles, as well as perlé thread for practising the braid stitch
to add an item to your Itinerary basket.
