A multi-coloured illuminated steam train riding along the countryside in the dark

About

SteamLights at the Bluebell Railway transforms a classic steam train journey into a magical after-dark experience. Departing from Sheffield Park Station, visitors can step aboard an illuminated steam train and travel through the Sussex countryside, passing colourful light displays, themed scenes and festive installations along the way.

For 2026, SteamLights introduces the enchanting theme Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Hosted by the Good Witch, the experience combines storytelling, music and vibrant displays inspired by the four seasons, creating a unique and immersive journey for all ages.

The return trip includes a stop at Horsted Keynes Station, where visitors can stretch their legs and purchase seasonal refreshments before continuing their illuminated adventure. Warm, colourful and full of wonder, SteamLights offers a memorable winter evening aboard one of Sussex's most beloved heritage railways.
