About

Located on the Kent/Sussex border at Barnsgate Manor Vineyard, on the edge of Ashdown Forest, The Clay Studio has far-reaching views towards the South Downs. Surrounded by beautiful fields and wild meadows, it is the perfect place to step away from the busy world and to immerse yourself in creative ceramics.

Our weekly classes are led by two experienced teachers ensuring every student receives plenty of individual guidance, covering a range of hand-building techniques and throwing on the wheel.  Weekend workshops and short courses provide focused insights into new techniques and taster sessions, whilst outdoor firing days add excitement and surprise.

The Clay Studio warmly welcomes students wishing to work with clay, whether beginners or experienced potters. The studio is fully equipped, with large airy teaching spaces and numerous throwing wheels, as well as beautiful outside spaces to work or relax in.

Our weekly classes, courses and workshops can be a fun social activity, as well as a mindful and quiet exercise, and we always work to encourage and nurture all our students while enjoying the community space.

Our team are also able to offer one-to-one tuition, which can be a rewarding way to increase knowledge, skills and confidence. The studio is also available for private customised experiences, such as hen or stag parties, Christmas or birthday parties or corporate team building days.
